Activities
A primary benefit of ownership at Maytag Mountain Ranch is the ability to be part of a working sustainable cattle ranch. An owner can decide their level of participation ranging from enjoying the ranch's many amenities and scenery to actively assisting in management and maintenance of the ranch. As with any busy Colorado ranch, there is always work to be done. An owner can choose from a variety of activities to assist their ranch managers including:
Feed the Livestock – feed the horses, cattle and the small animals such as cats, rabbits and chickens
Animal Health – assist in grooming, de-worming, vaccinating, shoeing, our ranch horses or doctoring injured animals
Barn Chores – keep hay, grain, mineral, and veterinary supplies stocked; clean stalls, runs, barn isle, wash rack, tack rooms, and lounge
Cattle and Calves – move cattle and horses, help in weaning calves, check and mend fences
Garden and Chickens – gather eggs and egg sales, work in the garden or one of the many flower beds. Yard work could range from watering to planting of new seedlings to weeding or harvesting fruit, herbs, and vegetables
Ranch Maintenance – work on ranch buildings, roads and shop projects
Office Projects – assist in the office and ranch communication such as the newsletter
The specific activities depend on the time of year:
January through February – feed the livestock, bust ice in stock tanks, plow roads, repair fences that the elk tear down and assist with shop projects on snowy days
March through May – move and feed cattle, assist with the horses, prepare meadows for irrigation by cleaning ditches, dragging meadows, and various repair projects
June through September – move cattle, check and brand calves, assist with the horses, build and maintain fences, irrigate the meadows, work in the garden, maintain yards
October through December – move cattle, help wean calves, build and maintain fences
