Mountain Biking
Colorado's mountain bikers love the mild climate, the trail variety and the great scenery Maytag Mountain Ranch offers.
Fat tire enthusiasts believe the Rainbow Trail and the Monarch Crest Trail are some of the finest single-track in Colorado. The Rainbow Trail in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains is accessible for bikers directly from the Ranch trails.
The Monarch Crest Trail is accessible from Salida and is 32 miles in length. It is mostly single track and has some of the best alpine scenery Colorado has to offer. Much of the trail is over 11,000 feet in elevation. One can descend the old fire road to Marshall Pass and connect with the Rainbow Trail for even longer rides.
This trail is usually free of snow from July through September. Local shuttle services provide service between various starting and ending points on the trail to allow an enjoyable day ride with service back to the starting point.
The Monarch Crest Trail is considered the premier mountain bike ride in the entire "Fourteeners" region. This trail has been touted by Bicycle Magazine as one of the top five rides in the United States.
