Prime Beef Country

Uncategorized

I recently had occasion to drive from Westcliffe, CO to Helena, Montana.   As I was entering the county in which Helena is located there were views of mountains ahead and a large highway sign that read: “You Are Now In PRIME BEEF Country”.   Although, I am sure there are large numbers of cattle in Montana, it struck me as interesting since there was not a cow in sight.   I couldn’t help reflect on how this sign would be just as well suited to our own Wet Mountain Valley.  Prime BEEF country to me is the Maytag Mountain Ranch and the many other ranches that line our valley.   And as for mountains, the Sangres are much more majestic than the Rocky Mountains that form the backdrop for Helena.  So as I was driving into Helena, I couldn’t help but appreciate, once again, the beauty and richness of the Valley that I call home and the hard work and dedication that it takes to run a Ranch such as the Maytag Mountain Ranch.  Our Ranch Managers work hard to maintain the organic certification and our beef is second to none.   So, although Helena may be Prime Beef country, the Wet Mountain Valley in the heart of Colorado and the Maytag Mountain Ranch easily claim this fame also.

Beautiful Sunsets

One of the natural events that I enjoy most about living in the Wet Mountain Valley is viewing the glorious sunsets.  Almost every evening, as the sun slowly sinks over Gibbs Peak (or Eagle Peak depending on the time of year), the colors reflected in the clouds from the vanishing light of the sun are truly magnificent.   Pictures hardly capture the richness of the yellows and blues; or the deep tones of the reds and oranges.  Many people visit this valley for the outdoor hiking, fishing and horseback riding activities….but all it takes is one look at the sunset to convince one to settle quietly into the natural rhythms of the valley.  I’ve seen the sunset from Key West and sunrises over the Atlantic Ocean from Maine to Florida.  But nothing is better than the sunsets over the Sangre De Cristo mountains.  If you have ever considered owning a piece of heaven on earth, come and visit us at the Ranch and see these sunsets for yourself.   Sip a glass of wine

from the deck of the cookhouse and enjoy the majesty of nature.   And if you are lucky enough, you’ll hear the accompanying sounds of nature…magnificent quiet and peaceful solitude or the laughter of friends and family as everyone gathers round a campfire awaiting the emergence of the brilliant, starry night as the sun disappears for another day.
